Jerry Don Black, 79, of Paragould, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018, at home in his wife’s arms. He was born May 16, 1938, in Stanford, Arkansas, to James Thomas “Tom“ and Pearl Mollie (Jones) Black. Jerry was Past Master of the Masonic Lodge with over fifty years of service. He was active in the American Legion. He worked 26 years at the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department and retired as Equipment Superintendent. He also retired from Ozark National Life as a top-selling agent for twelve years. He was a member of West View Baptist Church.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill “W.L.” Black; sister, Laverne Blankenship; and infant twin siblings.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Black, of the home; son, Shane Black, of San Diego, California; daughters, Julie Moreno and Libby Householder and her husband, Jeremiah, all of Paragould; twin sister, Mary Noles, of Walcott; and 6 grandchildren, Shaundiin, Sheyenne, Zebedee, Zane, Daniel and Rose.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. in the Center Hill Chapel of Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Jerry’s Masonic Lodge Brothers will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to Arkansas Methodist Medical Center or Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
