Jerry Dowler

Jerry Lavon Dowler was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on March 19, 2017, at the Med in Memphis, TN. He was born December 27, 1938, being the tenth child to Bert and Ruth Wilson Dowler. Jerry graduated from Lafe High School in 1959, and that same year he married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Fortenberry Dowler. To this union three sons were born. Jerry was a farmer and lived in the Hooker area his entire life. He was a member and a deacon at Big Creek Baptist Church. He loved his wife, kids, grandkids, and great grandkids along with his extended family of in-laws. Jerry also loved his church and church family. He enjoyed farming, woodworking, listening to good gospel music, good Bible preaching and reading his Bible. Jerry just enjoyed life in general.

He was preceded in death by one son, Steve Dowler; his parents; four brothers, Tony, Jack, Jim and Wayne Dowler; and three sisters, Marie Martin, Sena Cole, and Bertha Davidson.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Dowler, of the home; two sons, Scott (Patricia) Dowler and Tracy Dowler, of Paragould, AR; four grandchildren, Beth, Josh, Julianne, and Gene; five great grandchildren, Braden, Eli, Clara, Sara and Hunter; four brothers, Bill, Harold, Robert and Larry; two sisters, Gloria Lacy and Cherly Jones; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Phillips Funeral Home in Paragould, AR. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017 in the Center Hill Chapel of Phillips Funeral Home with Doran Gregory and Marvin Wolf, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, earmarked for Multiple Myloma Research.
