JoAnn (Mothershed) Cross

JoAnn Mothershed Cross, 77, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017, at 3:15 a.m. in Arlington Memorial Hospital. She was born July 19, 1940, in Paragould, Arkansas, to the loving parents of Venita Irene (Huffine) and Alvie Lee Mothershed and sister to Mary Jewel Jurs and Alvie Lee Mothershed, Jr.

On September 5, 1958, JoAnn married Charles D. Mayne and moved to Claysville, Pennsylvania. There she bore her daughter, Kimberly Dolores Alexas, and son, Charles Robert Mayne.  JoAnn raised her children in Pennsylvania until 1978.

On April 12, 1985, JoAnn married Vernon Lee Cross, Jr. in Breckenridge, Texas. She acquired two sons, Kevin Clayton Cross and Kyle Craig Cross. In 1990, Vernon and JoAnn relocated to Arlington, Texas, where she remained until her death.

JoAnn was passionate about her children, grandchildren, and her dogs. She enjoyed scrapbooking, crocheting, and traveling. She was an avid Texas Rangers fan. After working for Dallas-Fort Worth Airport for eight years, she retired in July of 2003. From there, she spent most of her time with her only granddaughter, Brittney Noel, and beloved yorkie, Taz Irene. She will be missed by many friends and family, including the Dixie High School graduating class of 1958.

Survivors include her husband, Vernon Lee Cross; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly D. and Thomas W. Alexas, of West Alexander, Pennsylvania; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles R. and Erma Mayne, of Fort Worth, Texas, Kevin and Martha Cross, of Aledo, Texas, and Kyle and DeAnn Cross, of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Brittney Noel, Blane Cross, and Nathan Cross; sister, Mary Jewel Jurs of Belvidere, Illinois; brother, Alvie Lee Mothershed, Jr. (Lavonda) of Paragould, Arkansas; nephews, Michael Lee Germain-Mothershed (Nathan), George Rudder (Shanie), Charles Rudder (Susie); nieces, Robin Vore, Mary Rudder, and Jackie Tant; and dogs, Zoey and Darla Marie.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 28, 2017, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Friday, December 29, at 10 a.m. in the Center Hill Chapel of Phillips Funeral Home. JoAnn will be laid to rest at the Pine Log Cemetery in Brookland, Arkansas.
