Obituary

Alvia Vaniel Nelson, 94, of Halliday, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, February 19, 2023. She was retired from Arkansas Methodist Medical Center where she was a cook for almost twenty years. She loved spending time with her family and friends, gardening, and fishing.
She was born September 19, 1928, to Wise and Bertha Wright of Paragould. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Nelson; beloved in-laws, Fred and Myrtle Nelson; sons, Hershel (Brenda) Nelson, David Nelson, Steven Nelson; daughter, Peggy (Hester) Richardson; sisters, Eva (Joe) Charles, Elaine (Jay) Cunningham, Adell (Virgel) Bowden; and grandson, Warren Nelson.
She is survived by her son, Paul (Linda) Nelson of Halliday; daughter, Melissa Nelson of Marmaduke; she was blessed with nine grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two honorary sons-in-law, Jethro Hester, Jerry Joiner; beloved friend, Gloria Ryney; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 23, from 1:00 p.m. until service time at Phillips Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with John Abernathy officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.
David Nelson, Tyler McDaniel, Corbin Bailey, Christopher Jones, Jimmy Phelps, and Garron McDaniel will serve as pallbearers. Preston Hill will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
