Obituary

Billy Lee Friar, born on November 23, 1950, departed this life on August 13, 2026. His passing marks the conclusion of a life notable for steadfast dedication to both his family and his craft. Billy’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Billy was the cherished son of Marvine Friar, his surviving mother, and the late J.B. Friar. He is remembered lovingly by his family: his daughters, Kathy Cole (Jackie) and Addison Condray-Friar; his stepdaughters, Cindy Poole and Robin Merrell; and his brother, Arlon Russom. Though he was predeceased by his father, J.B. Friar, his brother Tommie Friar, and his beloved daughter, Tressia Gail Sisco, their memories remained close to his heart.

As a father and grandfather, Billy held a special place in the family. He leaves behind grandchildren Shayla Beckman (Wesley), Amber Cole, Ashley Cole (Joe Collins), Angel Lenderman, Destiny Lenderman, Dalton Hester, and Tyler Brown. His influence extended another generation, with great-grandchildren Mason Beckman, Slade Beckman, Marshall Jones, Kynslee Lenderman, Ivy Baldwin, Ryatt Hester, Raylen Hester, and Bryer Lenderman carrying forward his memory.

Billy was known for his passion as a mechanic and could always be found working on something. His hands were rarely idle, and his skillful craftsmanship was admired by friends and family alike. Whether for work or pleasure, his ability to repair and restore touched the lives of those around him, leaving lasting reminders of his talent and perseverance.

Yet, Billy found much more than purpose in his workshop. The outdoors called to him, and his connection to the land was profound. He had a successful career as a farmland surveyor. For Billy, hunting, fishing, trotlining, and trapping were not merely hobbies—they were an integral facet of his livelihood. He approached these pursuits with the same commitment and skill that defined all aspects of his life.

Friends and relatives of Billy Lee Friar are invited to pay their respects at Phillips Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 18, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at Meadows Grove Cemetery in Beech Grove.

Gary Huckabay, Joey Grooms, Joseph Grooms, Dennis Watson, Wesley Beckman, and Rick Grooms will serve as pallbearers.

Joe Collins and Chris Keeling will serve as honorary pallbearers.
