Bobby Ray Cannon passed away on July 18, 2026, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, at the age of 91. Born April 27, 1935 in Delaplaine, Arkansas, Bobby spent a rich and meaningful life devoted to his family, service, and many cherished pursuits.

A proud Marine veteran, Bob served his country with honor during the Korean War, forever carrying himself with the dignity and resolve of those who answer the nation’s call. Upon returning home, he nurtured a lifelong commitment to education, earning his Bachelor in Education. His deep compassion for others led him to a fulfilling career as a Special Education teacher, warmly remembered by students and colleagues alike at Bay, Greene County Tech, and Oak Grove. He touched many young lives, always striving to help those who needed encouragement and a guiding hand.

Bob’s faith was a pillar of his existence. For some time, he dedicated himself as a preacher at Commissary Church of Christ, sharing wisdom and strength with his congregation. A steadfast member of the church, he found joy and comfort in its community, giving tirelessly through acts of service and support.

Those who knew Bob will remember his keen wit and the delight he took in keeping friends and loved ones on their toes—especially when “cheating to win at cards,” one of his favorite playful pastimes. He enjoyed riding four-wheelers and found adventure in traveling, always embracing life’s journey with curiosity and enthusiasm. Firm in his convictions, Bob was known for his traditional values and steadfast Republican beliefs, never hesitating to stand up for what he held dear.

Bob’s legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his son, Burton Cannon (Brenda); daughters, Sharon Cannon, Karen Stewart (John), and Joan Price; grandchildren, Kristy Johnson, Brooke Cannon, Joseph Johnson, Candice Sartain, Corrine Percell, and Chad Stewart; as well as great-grandchildren, Dakota Allison, Brody Allison, Laura Daspit, Gracie Allison, Dash Johnson, Isabella Johnson, Desiree Knuckles, Dr. Brenna Cannon, Milo Stewart, Mercy Stewart, and Marlee Stewart.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon William Cannon and Connie Elizabeth Lee; wife of 43 years and the mother of his children, Bonnie Cannon; wife, Rosetta Howard Cannon; siblings, Wilburn Cannon, Bill Cannon, Jack Cannon, Paul Cannon, Jerry Morris, and Norma Powell.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, July 22, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. A funeral service honoring Bobby’s life will follow immediately at 1:00 p.m. with Evan Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.

Joseph Johnson, Dakota Johnson, Brody Allison, and Dash Johnson will serve as pallbearers. Bob’s granddaughters and great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
