Carla Jane
Selby
Mar 10, 1955 — Jul 1, 2026
Paragould
Carla Jane “Janie” (Lashley) Selby, born on March 10, 1955, in Paragould, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, in her hometown. She was 71 years old.
Janie’s life was enriched by her warm spirit and the many meaningful connections she maintained with family and friends throughout her years. Janie was so good to the people in her life. So considerate and caring. When she gave, it was easy to see that it came straight from the heart…and it gave everyone around her the gift of a nicer world to live in.
Janie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Carl and Eula Lashley; her husband, Spencer Selby; her brothers, Bill Lashley, Dennis Lashley, and Jim Lashley; and her nephews, Mark, Phillip, Perry, and Bobby Lashley. Their memories remained with her always, and she often spoke fondly of the times they shared.
She is survived by her brother, Sherry Lashley; sisters-in-law, Ila Lashley and Jo Lashley; her nieces, Jill Bateman (Tim), Kathy Dahnke, Kim Myrick (Tim), Beverly Yarbrough (Danny), Lana Massey (Joey), and Gayla Bunch (Mark); great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews. Carla treasured her family deeply. She delighted in moments spent together, especially treasured lunches with her nieces, which brought her immense joy and laughter.
A woman with a zest for life, Janie was known for enjoying simple but meaningful pleasures. She collected unusual rocks and dimes, appreciating the beauty and uniqueness of each find. Nothing made her feel more alive than driving with the window down and her favorite music turned up—a scene that captured her free spirit perfectly. Janie also had a special love for her cat, Sadie, who was her faithful companion and a great comfort throughout the years.
A graveside service in her memory will take place at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Walcott, on July 2, at 4:00 p.m. with Phillip Keeling officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend as Janie is laid to rest alongside the loved ones who went before her. The graveside service is under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home.
