Obituary

Darlene Thompson, 68, beloved mother, Nana, sister and friend, passed away at her home on February 3, 2022.

Darlene was born on December 7, 1953, in Nashville, Tennessee, to William and Annie Crossland. She attended and graduated from Antioch High School in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1971. After high school, Darlene met Michael Thompson on Valentine's Day and they later married on January 11, 1972, and remained so until his passing in 2019. Their 50th wedding anniversary was January 11, 2022.

Darlene—also fondly known as Nana D--was a devoted mother and Nana to not only her children and grandchildren, but also to dozens of other family friends that she treated as if they were her own. She loved music and singing and was a self-proclaimed Karaoke Queen—and had the shirt to prove it!

She attended Central Baptist Church in Paragould and loved painting, camping, fishing, Diet Cokes, and watching her grandkids play ball--and was remarkably happy to see them working hard for, and reaching, their educational and professional goals.

Darlene also relished beating you at just about any competitive sport or game in which you locked horns—and was more than happy to let you know about it when she won.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, William and Annie Crossland, her husband, Michael Thompson, and siblings, Bill "Bud" Crossland, Don Crossland, David Crossland and Deborah Seagraves.

She is survived by her brother, Darrell Crossland (Brenda) of Smyrna, Tennessee, and Sheron Zimmer (Kyle) of Mobile, Alabama. Darlene is also survived by her daughter, Dana Butler (Josh) of Paragould, son Michael Thompson, Jr. (Amy) of Steele, Missouri, grandchildren Lexi (and as Nana would jokingly say, not grandson-in-law, Tanner Perkins), Zane Butler, Zeke Butler, Ashton Thompson, Allison Thompson and dozens of nieces, nephews and friends.

A Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2022, from Noon until 2 P.M. at Phillips Funeral Home in Paragould. A Celebration of Life will be held at Phillips Funeral Home in Paragould immediately following the Visitation. A graveside service will be held at Brown's Chapel Cemetery following the Celebration of Life.
