Dewayne Watson, 78, of Paragould, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022.  He was born May 2, 1944, in Paragould, to Newual and Wanda Watson.  Dewayne retired from the Paragould Police Department after 26 years with the rank of Captain.  He served 8 years in the National Guard.  Dewayne had a servant's heart which was shown in his career choice, his dedication to the food pantry, and his active membership at Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church.  In his free time, he enjoyed finding a bargain or a good conversation at the flea markets, especially Buca John's.  Dewayne was a loved person and a remarkable husband, father, and grandfather.

Dewayne was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Ester May Watson and Caroline Kay Watson.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Sandra Friar Watson of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Lani Jo Watson of Doniphan, Missouri; daughter and son-in-law, Lanie and Jack Hailey of Paragould; grandchildren, Lachelle Maynard (Blake), Zachary Watson (Irene), Latonia Hall (Tommy), Michael Hailey, Emily Wisby (Dustin), Corey Rollings; 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Watson; cousin, Robert Wayne; and numerous other cousins, friends, and extended family.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 6, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 7, at Phillips Funeral Home with Michael Sutton officiating.  Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery.

Dustin Wisby, Tommy Hall, Ernie Pruitt, Elizabeth Friar, Kody Friar, and Jason Friar will serve as pallbearers.
