It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donnie Byron Russell, a loving husband, dad, Pe-Paw, and friend, who departed this world on September 25, 2026. Born on November 25, 1960, in West Memphis, Arkansas, Donnie was the son of Don and Bobbie Russell.

Donnie was preceded in death by his father, Don Russell; his beloved son, Joshua Russell; and his in-laws, Lacy and Eleanor (Jo) Foresythe.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, survived by his devoted wife, Brenda; daughter, Cassie (Chris) Johnson; grandson, Clay Henry Johnson; mother, Bobbie Russell; sister, Margaret Russell; nieces, Taylour (Petey) Hensley, Ashlie (Brad) Brengard, Lacey Songer; sister-in-law, Cissy (Kenny) Jones, and many great-nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward.

Donnie graduated from Greene County Tech School District as a member of the class of 1979. He married the love of his life, Brenda, in December of 1982. Together they adopted Cassie on September 24, 1988.

He began his career as a welder and opened Russell Ironworks; he then spent numerous years in the manufacturing industry. He returned to his alma mater, Greene County Tech School District, as the maintenance director, where he spent his days taking care of the school he loved and the people in it. A GCT Eagle through and through, he truly bled green and gold.

When he wasn't taking care of GCT, he was happiest spending time with the people he loved. He enjoyed fishing, grilling, spending time with family and friends, and making memories with those closest to him. He especially treasured his time spent with Clay Henry.

An active member of West View Baptist Church, Donnie served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and member of several committees to serve the congregation.

Visitation will be held at West View Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 29 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at the church on Wednesday, September 30 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Phillips Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Greene County Tech Educational Foundation, West View Baptist Church, or the American Cancer Society.
