Obituary

Ella Joy "Shirley Ann" Holland, a beloved member of her community and cherished family matriarch, fought the good fight surrounded by her family until her last breath on March 4, 2026, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, at the age of 77. Born on November 10, 1948, in Lafe, Arkansas, Shirley Ann was known for the warmth she spread to everyone she met, flourishing in a life filled with love, laughter, and music.

Shirley Ann devotedly worked as a waitress at Guy's Buffet, where she delighted in brightening the days of her customers. Her personality radiated warmth; she was full of love and had a unique way of making anyone feel special. She never met a stranger and could engage anyone in heartfelt conversation. Every visit with her turned into a cherished memory, often extending well beyond what was planned, as she would follow guests to the door, ensuring they left with her parting words, “I love you.”

A devout and faithful member of Stonewall Church, Shirley Ann also shared her wisdom through caring advice, often reminding others to savor every moment spent with their children—a testament to how deeply she treasured her own family. She was protective of both children and animals, embodying a spirit of kindness that endeared her to many.

Shirley Ann was a lover of nature, flowers, and all of God's creations. Whether admiring the beauty of sunsets or gazing at the moon, she filled her life with appreciation for the world around her. Music was another passion; she played the guitar and piano, and always said, “There will never be any music as good as the 80’s music.” She was always singing and sharing her joy with those around her. She always had a song in her head. Her children’s friends affectionately referred to her as "Mom," reflecting the nurturing atmosphere she cultivated.

Shirley Ann was not only a devoted mother and grandmother but also a caring sister and daughter. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Walter Holland, Jr.; her son, Nathan Holland; daughters, Joy Page (Cary Clayton) and Rebecca "Becky" Stokes (Danielle); sisters, Betty Brewer (Freddie) and Joyce Messer (John); grandsons, Travis Page (Alycia) and Joseph Page (Ashley); and her precious dog, Olivia "Libby."

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fletcher and Ella Jackson; brothers, Dalton King, Howard Jackson, Ralph Jackson, Bobby Jackson, Tommy “Chub” Jackson, Jimmy Jackson, and Lawrence Jackson; and sisters, Joan Ray and Helen Tevebaugh.

As we gather to celebrate her remarkable life, let us remember Shirley Ann's legacy of love, her boundless compassion for others, and her unwavering spirit that continues to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. A visitation for Shirley Ann will take place on Sunday, March 8, at Phillips Funeral Home from 1 PM to 2 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 2 PM with Sally Shepard officiating. Her light may have dimmed in this world, but it now shines brighter in heaven with her Lord. Her love continues on through her family and all the lives she touched.
