Eva "Joann" Messer, 82, of Paragould, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022. She was born on October 11, 1939, to Marcus and Ruby Smith. Joann was a loving Christian woman that loved church. She enjoyed growing and working with flowers. Joann made many friends and acquaintances when she owned Messer's Laundry Mat. Joann always looked forward to family gatherings and always doted on her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald Messer; and siblings, Leon Smith, Ricky Smith, Carolyn Cole, and Tommy Smith.

Survivors include her son, Dewayne (Melisa) Messer; daughter, Jill (Steve) Smithee; sister; Kathryn Ryles, grandchild; Bree'Ann Sowell, and great-grandchild; Lillian Sowell.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 24, from 1:00 p.m. until service time at Phillips Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Scotty Trayler officiating. Burial will follow at New Liberty Cemetery.
