Obituary

Gary Wayne Cupp, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and patriot, passed away peacefully in his home at Walcott, Arkansas, on June 11, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on February 4, 1952, Gary's life was one of unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his community.

A proud Arkansan through and through, Gary spent his entire career in the military, where he forged a legacy of service and love. His commitment to his nation was evident in his 38 years of service in the Army National Guard. Enlisting in December 1970, Gary's military career was marked by honor and distinction until his retirement in 2008. His dedication shined as he worked at OMS1/FMS1 for 21 years, including serving as a respected shop chief from 2001 to 2008.

Gary's love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He and his beloved wife, Darlene, were united in marriage for 31 years. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, support, and mutual adoration. Gary was the love of Darlene's life, and their bond was a testament to true partnership and affection.  Together they loved and cared for their fur babies.  Willow was by Gary's side until the end. JC, Lacie, and Libbie have passed away.

A sensitive man with a heart of gold, Gary cherished his children and grandchildren more than life itself. He reveled in their accomplishments and joys, never missing a chance to watch them fish or compete in sports. His presence in the stands was a constant, cheering on with passion and enthusiasm.

Beyond his family and military service, Gary had simple pleasures that brought him joy. He was a fan of the classic western "Gunsmoke," which he could often be found watching while enjoying his favorite fried bologna or pimento cheese sandwiches. These moments of relaxation were a well-deserved respite for a man who gave so much of himself to others.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, James "Charley" Cupp and Grace Walls; brother, Charles Cupp; nephew, Kelley Mangrum, mother and father-in-law, Leamon and Alice Glasgow; and a ton of aunts and uncles.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Darlene Cupp; children, Nicholas Cupp (Sheila), Chad Cupp (Nikki), Kirk Cupp (Kara), Kim Smith, Brian Brinkley (Krysta), Amie Griffin (Greg), Jennifer Barrow (Michael); brother, Jim Cupp (Debbie); sister, June Mangrum (Larry); grandchildren, Austin (Sydney Brewer), Madison, Brianna (Andrew Oster), Garrett, Gavin, Megan (Brandon), Jacob Wray, Kyle, Madeline, Aaliyah (Brandon), Hunter, Rijah, Violet, Arielle Price (Jose), Asher, Jacob, Katelyn (Jacob), Bryce (Courtney), Derrian (Jewlly), Micah, Legend, and Jack; and great-grandchildren, Elijah and Nolan Price.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 14 from 12:00 p.m. until service time at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The funeral service under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rhyne Putman officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
