Obituary

Gayla Sue Davis passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on August 24, 1952, in Marmaduke, Arkansas, she was a beacon of love and warmth to all who knew her. Gayla's life was a testament to the enduring strength of family bonds and the simple joys that make life beautiful.

For 19 years, Gayla dedicated herself to her work at Walmart, where she was not just an employee but a friend to many. Her colleagues remember her as a reliable and compassionate presence, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand.

Gayla's interests were as warm and inviting as her personality. She had a lifelong love affair with Sam's Club, her favorite store, which was a treasure trove for her cherished collections of cookbooks and salt and pepper shakers. Each item in her collection told a story, a souvenir from travels, or a gift from loved ones.

Nothing brought Gayla more joy than indulging in her favorite strawberry milkshake, a simple pleasure that she savored with childlike delight. Her love for these sweet treats was only surpassed by the love she had for her family. Gayla was the heart of her family, especially adored by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was a place of gathering, laughter, and countless memories that her family will hold dear forever.

Gayla was often fondly described as a grandmother to everyone, her nurturing spirit and generous heart leaving a lasting impact on those around her. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel loved and cared for, her home a sanctuary for friends, family, and even strangers who quickly became friends.

Gayla was preceded in death by her parents, Farrell and Vernillia Smith; husband, Mike Davis, Sr.; son, Richard Brady; grandson, Justin Alsup; and brother, Ronald Smith.

Gayla is survived by her son, Chris Brady (Shelly); daughter, Angie Cox (David); stepson, Mike Davis, Jr. (Sommer); stepdaughter, Regina Reeves (Tim); grandchildren, Shanna (Schylar), Ella, Angel (Scott), Coleton, Austin (Allison), Abby, and Kristin; and great-grandchildren, Cameron, Levi, Grayson, Lacie, Case, and Maddie; and daughter-in-law, Tammy Brady.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 4, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at Phillips Funeral Home.  The funeral service will begin at noon at Phillips Funeral Home with Bro. Kim Bridges officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodland Heights Cemetery.

Shane Simpson, Heath Brady, Wade Boyd, Austin Brady, John Hood, and Daniel Brady will serve as pallbearers.
