Obituary

Glen Edward Russell, a cherished soul and a man of honor, passed away on April 16, 2025, in Newport, Arkansas. Born on March 20, 1944, in Paragould, Arkansas, Glen's life was a testament to the virtues of loyalty, courage, and selflessness.

Glen's journey in the armed forces began on April 10, 1962, when he enlisted in the United States Navy. His three years of service were marked by his steadfast commitment and an unwavering sense of duty. Not long after his honorable discharge from the Navy on April 5, 1965, Glen's call to serve led him to the United States Army on August 10, 1965. He served in the Vietnam War.  His military career spanned over two decades, including a second period of service from November 7, 1978, to November 30, 1991 when he served as a military police officer.

Beyond his military service, Glen was known for his generous spirit and his willingness to put others before himself. His selflessness was not just a trait but a way of life, as he continually sought to contribute to the well-being of those around him. Glen's character was one of quiet strength and profound integrity, values that he upheld in every aspect of his life.

A true Arkansan at heart, Glen was a fervent fan of Razorback football, often found cheering for his team with the same passion he brought to every endeavor. In his leisure time, Glen found solace in the simple pleasures of life. He was particularly fond of watching westerns, a genre that perhaps reflected his own principles of courage and justice. The timeless music of Johnny Cash resonated deeply with Glen, his songs providing a soundtrack to many moments in Glen's life.  He was also a skilled pool player.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Elta and Ivy Russell; wife, Carmella Russell; and siblings, Emma Adams, Joyce Smith, Wayne Russell, Gary Russell, Elta Russell, Jr., and Wilma Rue.

Survivors include his nephews and nieces, Sandra Sims of Paragould, Suzanne Keller of Baton Rouge, LA, Donald Russell of Houston, TX, Gary Russell, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA, Denise Russell of Baton Rouge, LA, Ronnie Phelps of Paragould, April Oyer of Houston, TX, Mandy Russell of Houston, TX, Richard Russell of Houston, TX, DeEtta Crane of Clio, MI, Darla Buys of Lapeer, MI, Cathy Bowen of Michigan, Ralph Houghtaling of Burton, MI, Ted Houghtaling of Lapeer, Michigan, and Sue Norling of Michigan; several great nephews, great nieces, and extended family.
