August 2, 1931 – July 13, 2015
James "Jim" Doyne Matheny, 83, of Paragould died Monday, July 13, 2015 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was a member of the Center Hill Church of Christ and a veteran of the Korean War. After 34 years with the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, he retired as head of the Cardiopulmonary Department.
James was active for many years in his congregation's benevolence program. Previously, he was a member of the Marmaduke and Stonewall congregations. He was an avid hunter of deer and turkey using bow and arrow.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Burley Matheny; and by his siblings, Arvel Matheny, Everett "Rip" Matheny, and Dorothy Whitworth.
Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Darlena Fay McDonald Matheny; three children, James Randal Matheny and his wife Vicki Lynne of São José dos Campos, Brazil, Rita Fay Rains and her husband Bobby of Paragould and Kevin Lynn Matheny of Paragould; and a brother, Wayne Matheny of Ravenden. He also left five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 3:00pm Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Phillips Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm in the Center Hill Chapel of Phillips Funeral Home with Michael Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.
