James Edward Prince, 83, of Marmaduke, passed away Sunday September 25th, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 3, 1939 in Leachville, Arkansas to the late General Woodrow and Velma Prince. He was the oldest of 5 children. James was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Lucy Prince, and two sisters.
Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-laws, Eddie and Derina Prince, Mike and Tammy Prince all of Marmaduke, Arkansas; Tony Prince and Mark Prince of Jonesboro, Arkansas; two sisters, Aline Bouwknegt and Brenda Fikes of Michigan; two sister-in-laws that he loved as his own sisters, Janiece Howell and Pamela Napier of Michigan; five Grandchildren, April (Jeremy) Carter, Brandy (Jason) Lopez, Kesha (Matt) Palmer, Cody (Sheila) Prince and Heather (Jason) Mosley; 15 great-grandchildren whom he adored along with a host of family and friends.
James was a retired welder. He worked many years in factories and was known as being an excellent welder. James was an avid hunter and took great pleasure in this sport. He enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with his sons and grandson. He was known for being an excellent shot even in his older years of life. He also enjoyed trapping wildlife and fishing. Later in life, James and Lucy would go fishing for hours. She would sit in the truck and read the Bible while he caught fish to take home for dinner. James was a kindhearted guy that never met a stranger and always had a kind word and a laugh to share.
James married the love of his life, Lucy Howell, on July 11, 1957. They had four sons and enjoyed 64 years of marriage. After losing Lucy in 2021, James started to decline. He often told his family that he loved them but was ready to go home to Heaven to be with the Lord and be reunited with his love.
The family has stated, "Our hearts are saddened, but we know that Mom and Dad are together once again. We know that Mom and Dad will have a watchful eye waiting for our homecoming day when our family will once again be reunited for eternity through the blissful hope of Jesus Christ."
A graveside service under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, at Gainesville Cemetery with Gary Holcomb officiating.
Eddie Prince, Mike Prince, Tony Prince, Mark Prince, Cody Prince, and Dakota Prince will serve as pallbearers.
