James Howard Wood, a cherished family man, left this world surrounded by his family and loved ones on July 15, 2025, at the age of 77 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born on January 8, 1948, in Beech Grove, Arkansas, James was a beacon of love and strength to all who knew him.
James had a passion for hunting and fishing, activities that would bring him peace and joy throughout his life. However, it was the love for his family that truly defined him. As a loving husband, father, and Papaw, James's commitment to his loved ones was unwavering, and he consistently placed their happiness and well-being above all else.
In his professional life, James was known for his entrepreneurial spirit. He was the proud owner and operator of Wood Auto Sales, a business that thrived under his guidance and became a trusted name within the community.
Above all, James's heart belonged to his family. He was a pillar of support, a source of wise counsel, and a provider of endless love. His guidance shaped the lives of his children and grandchildren, and his influence will be felt for generations to come. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and the precious moments shared during family gatherings, holiday celebrations, and quiet evenings at home.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Buford and Louise Wood; brother, John Wood; and three sisters, Linda Prince, Wanda Wood, and Donna Campbell.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Phyllis Wood; two sons, Chad Wood (Starla) and Shane Wood (Jodi); and one daughter, Heather Russom (Brandon); one brother, Jeff Wood; grandchildren, Hunter Rawls (Makenzie), Shana Sellers (Dillon), Madi Adcock (Weston), Fisher Wood, Blaine Wood, Ally Wood, Maggie Russom, Jax Russom, and Madden Russom; and great-grandchildren, Marlee Taylor, Kylan Taylor, and Riley Rawls.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 18, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at Greene County Memorial Gardens with Chad Wood officiating.
Steven Rawls, Shannon Woodard, Cody Wood, Jamie Bland, Anthony Walker, and Dillon Sellers have the honor of serving as pallbearers.
