J.D. Yates, a loving father, grandfather, sibling, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2023, in Paragould, Arkansas. Born on May 29, 1935, in Williford, Arkansas, J.D. lived a fulfilling life, touching the hearts of all who knew him with his warmth, kindness, and generosity.
J.D. was a proud 1953 graduate of Childress High School. He went on to build a successful career as a tool and die maker first at Crane and then at Colson Caster, where he ultimately retired. Throughout his life, J.D. was known for his strong work ethic, dedication to his craft, and the lasting relationships he formed with his colleagues and friends.
A man of many passions, J.D. found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid fisherman, often spending his weekends casting lines and enjoying the serenity of nature. J.D. also had a green thumb, tending to his beautiful garden with great care and delight. His love for the outdoors extended beyond these hobbies, as he cherished every moment spent under the sun, surrounded by the beauty of the natural world. His love for animals was evident in the care he took to feed birds and provide a welcoming environment for all creatures.
J.D. was also a singer, often sharing his gift to uplift others spirits. He was an active member of Prospect Baptist Church in Jonesboro. His deep faith and commitment to his church community brought him a sense of purpose and fulfillment. J.D. was a fun-loving Christian man that lit up a room when he walked in.
J.D. was the son of the late Samuel and Lara Yates. He was preceded in death by his brother, Don Yates; son, Jerry Don Yates; and his stepdaughter, Debbie Rothgery. J.D. was also predeceased by his three wives, Tulip Gatlin, Joann Yates, and Patsy Yates. He is survived by his loving children, Jason Yates and Deanna Ziomek; step-children, Brent Maynard, and Tina Pickney; his siblings, Jerry Yates, Charlotte Lasley, Thelma Stanfill, and Doris Clement; and his cherished grandchildren, Dana Ziomek, Harley Yates, Tiffany Harris, and Haven Albright; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
In his final days, J.D. was surrounded by the love and warmth of his family, a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to nurturing those relationships. His unwavering strength, kindness, and selflessness will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
The family will receive friends Sunday, June 11, from 3 p.m. until service time at Phillips Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 4 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Mike Book officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Log Cemetery.
Keith Yates, John Yates, Rick Rothgery, Scott Pickney, Rick Ward, and Phil Harris will serve as pallbearers. Tracy Troutman will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
If one wishes to make lasting memorial, J.D. would be honored with contributions to Prospect Baptist Church or an animal rescue of your choice.
