Jeffery Don Riley passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at his home in Paragould, Arkansas, just two days before his 62nd birthday. Born on June 30, 1964, in Paragould, Jeffery’s life was deeply rooted in caring for his family.
Throughout his life, Jeffery radiated a unique warmth and genuine kindness, never failing to lift the spirits of those around him. Family was always at the center of Jeffery's world. He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa Newman-Riley, whose partnership was a true foundation for their family. Together, they shared countless memories and supported one another through the joys and trials of life.
Among Jeffery's greatest sources of pride were his children: son Trent Slayton (Amanda) and daughter Savannah Riley, who carry forward his legacy with strength and love. His devotion extended to his cherished grandchildren—Victoria Slayton, Thomas Slayton, Nathaniel Leonard, Hayden Leonard, and Maverick Slayton—each of whom brought a special light and joy to his days. He was the beloved son of Audrey Walls and is remembered fondly by his siblings: brothers Joel Riley (Stacey) and Daniel Riley, and sisters Carol Cook (Gary) and Rhonda Brown.
He is preceded in death with his father, Kenneth Riley, and his step-sons, Tyler Slayton and Johnathan Slayton.
Jeffery’s zest for life found many expressions. He will be remembered by many in the community for his remarkable talents in barrel racing at rodeos, where his skills and competitive spirit earned him numerous awards. Friends recall the thrill of watching him ride—a man thoroughly in his element, simultaneously focused and free. Away from the arena, Jeffery’s musical gifts enriched moments both big and small. A talented guitar player, his music brought happiness to gatherings and comfort in quieter times.
Everyone who knew Jeffery will remember his easy laugh, steadfast friendship, and the humility with which he met all things, whether challenges or triumphs. His gentle advice, encouraging words, and generous spirit touched countless lives.
A visitation to honor and remember Jeffery will be held on Friday, July 3, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. Immediately following, a Celebration of Life service will begin at 3:00 p.m. All who knew and loved Jeffery are invited to attend and share in commemorating a life so well lived.
