Obituary

Jesse Wallace Phelps, a distinguished musician and artist, passed away on April 21, 2026, in Paragould, Arkansas. Born on June 29, 1936, in Dunklin County, Missouri, Jesse’s life was marked by a deep dedication to his crafts and a legacy that touched many through his art and music.

Jesse was a master musician whose passion for music permeated his life from an early age. His talent was evident not only in live performances but also through his meticulous studio work, which served as his primary source of income and a true expression of his soul. Beyond his musical endeavors, Jesse was also a gifted neon artist. His vibrant creations once illuminated the downtown Memphis skyline, serving as a beacon of his artistic vision for several years.

Jesse’s family remembers him with great love and respect. He is survived by his daughters, Sheri Ripley and Debbie Roberts; brother, Arthur Phelps; his sister, Neva Welch; four grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren, who carry forward his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Rosa Phelps, as well as his brother John Phelps and sister Becky Gooch.

A visitation to honor Jesse’s memory will be held on April 29, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. This will be followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Ricky Phelps officiating.

Kim Bailey, Jack Thorn, JR Rogers, Phillip Moore, Gary Carroll, and Danny Lunsford will serve as pallbearers.
