Jimmy Doyle Markum, 84, of Paragould, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Born on May 18, 1940, in Black Oak, Arkansas, he was a man who lived a full life, rich with the simple joys.
Before embarking on a long and dedicated career at Tenneco, Jimmy was a hardworking farmer. For 28 years, he committed his talents to Tenneco, where he was not just an employee but a friend and a mentor to many.
An avid fisherman, Jimmy's love for the sport was only matched by his love for cooking his catch. He was famous for his ability to smoke meat to perfection and cook fish with a skill that tantalized the taste buds of anyone lucky enough to partake in his culinary creations. Family gatherings were always a highlight for him, as they provided the perfect stage for him to indulge in his passion for cooking while surrounded by friends and family.
Beyond his professional life, Jimmy was a man of numerous passions. He was exceptionally talented at working on things and building. A voracious reader, he found solace and adventure within the pages of books. His appreciation for the simple pleasures in life extended to his love for Western movies
In his later years, Jimmy found faith and became a devoted Christian. He joined the Marmaduke First General Baptist Church. His faith became a source of strength and comfort.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, G.W. and Velma Markum; son, Jerry Markum; and brother, Bob Markum.
Survivors include his wife of 46 ½ years, Yvonna Seay Markum; son and daughter-in-law, David Allen and Cindy Markum; daughter, Teresa Markum (Richard Bowers); grandchildren, Franchesca (Ben) Pickens, Cody (Marlo) Markum, Blake Markum, Tyler (Abby) Hurt, Paige Markum, Sydney (Ben) Stevens, Nick (Kelsi) Rose, and Shannon (Ty) Granger; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 18, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Bro. Kim Bridges officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.
Nick Rose, Cody Markum, Blake Markum, Tyler Hurt, John McAlister, Isaac Hitchcock, Ty Granger, Ben Stevens, and Brayden Lopez will serve as pallbearers.
