Johnathan Randall Slayton passed away on June 28, 2025. He was born December 26, 1986, to Theresa Newman and Brian Keith Slayton in Paragould, Arkansas. John was known for having a heart bigger than Texas. If he was ever needed or thought he was ever needed, he was there.

He was known as Big John and he was a very strong person that often didn't know his own strength. John's greatest love was his son, Maverick. He enjoyed spending time with him playing video games, swimming, and watching movies together. Whatever Maverick wanted to do, John was on board.

His favorite holiday was the 4th of July. Shooting lots of fireworks was his favorite thing to do because he was such a big kid at heart.

John was preceded in death by his father, Keith Slayton; brother, Tyler Slayton; and grandfather, Wendall Slayton.

John leaves behind his mother and stepfather, Theresa Newman-Riley and Jeff Riley; brother, Trent Slayton (Amanda); son, Maverick Slayton; girlfriend, Jordan Mullins; stepsister, Savannah Riley; grandparents, Donnie and Brenda Newman; grandmother, Pat Slayton Price; and a host of other family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 3, from 12:00 p.m. until service time at Phillips Funeral Home. The memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Tommy Newman officiating.
