Obituary

Joseph "Joey" George Wesley III, 45, of Paragould, Arkansas, passed away at his home October 18, 2022.
A memorial service will be held at the Pine Creek Reservation Community Center, 1485 Mno-Bmadzewen Way, Fulton, MI 49052 at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, October 28, 2022 with Bill Vandegriff officiating. Visitation will take place from 11:00A.M. until the time of the service at 1:00 P.M. also on Friday at the Community Center. Interment will be at Indian Mission Cemetery.
Joey was born Tuesday, October 4, 1977 at Community Hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan to Terry Lynn (Clendennen) Wesley and Joseph George Wesley, Jr. He attended Battle Creek Public Schools and graduated with a GED. He engaged in all sports, but his passion was baseball, which he excelled at. While in school, he received a letter of intent to become a professional baseball player. As he grew up, his favorite teams became the Detroit Tigers, Lions and Michigan State basketball.
Joey was a lifelong tribal member of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi (NHBP) and an extended member of the Turtle Clan. In 2005, at the Potawatomi Gathering, he and his cousin, Nathaniel Spurr, led NHBP to a first-place finish in the softball tournament. Joey enjoyed being an outdoorsman and was one with nature. He was an avid reader with all things of Native American history and Native American cultures.
Joey worked numerous jobs and ended up in concrete work. He mastered the art of concrete finishing and was sought out for his work, which he took great pride in performing. As he became a man, he became very family-oriented.
Joey's life was like the colors of the seasons, some not so good and others joyful and happy! He was known to wander, be adventurous, and at times to be a little wild. But to know him was to know a good person with a big, big heart. He will be greatly missed. And as he walks on – he'll take his mother's broken heart with him.
Joey is survived by his wife, Amy (Klimek) Wesley; his beloved children: son, Seth Ryan Wesley; daughter, Brianna Gabriella Wesley, and twin daughters, Savannah Rose Wesley and Sarah Lynn Wesley; his mother, Terry Lynn (Wesley) Doud; step-father, David E. Doud; brothers, Corey (Dee Dee) Smith, Todd (Kanjana) Smith and Nicholas (Dani) Doud; cousins, Nathaniel (Becky) Spurr, Josiah (Stacy) Spurr, Robert (Wesley) Potter; several more cousins; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Joey was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joseph George Wesley, Sr. and Irene (Medawis) Wesley; maternal grandfathers, Ben E. Heath, Sr. and Norman Gerald (Jerry) Clendennen; maternal grandmother, Margaret Ione Ankenbauer; aunts, Laura (Wesley) Spurr and Mary Marie Wesley; brother, Robert "Todd" Wesley; cousins Sarah (Wesley) Joselyn and Bradley (Wesley) Potter.
