Obituary

Lonnie Lynwood Mills, 86, of Paragould, traveled to his heavenly home on Sunday, August 15, 2021. He was born August 27, 1934, to Lonnie and Bernice Mills in Paris, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Jim and Leslie Mills; and two sisters, Melinda Cullins and Betsy Mathews.

A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife of forty eight years, Irma Cole Mills; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie (Mills) and Larry Lamont of Sheridan, and a son and daughter-in-law, Kelly and Jennifer Mills of Jonesboro. He was the loving grandfather of Allison Bruton (Adam), Samantha Lamont, Abbie Lamont, Halee Mills, and Kaleigh Mills. He had one great-grandchild, Adelyn, with another great-grandchild due in February. Lynwood was the oldest of nine children, he is also survived by siblings Nancy Mills and Lona Clark of Bryant, Bill Mills of Lowell, and John Roger Mills of Cabot; and the 17 nieces and nephews of the Mills family.

Lynwood served his entire career as a road superintendent, building roads throughout the state. If you have traveled any road in Arkansas, chances are your life was affected by Lynwood's contribution. He was a member of the National Guard, a Baptist, and a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. He lived for Razorback sports, especially basketball. He loved old country music, which was real country music and the comedic stylings of Jerry Clower. He was cherished by those who loved him and a rock for those who were blessed to know him.

Lynwood's measure is not easily summarized into the spaces before you. He was far more than the family can put into words during times of grief. If you knew him, you loved him and in the end, that's all we can hope for in life. His impact on this earth was insurmountable and will be felt deeply by many and for years to come.

Graveside services will be held at McKendree Cemetery, Paris, Arkansas, Saturday, August 21, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to McKendree Cemetery Association; a non-profit association.
