Obituary

Louis Herbert Phillips, 90, of Marmaduke, passed away at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.  He was born November 6, 1928, to Rudy and Norma Phillips. He was of the Church of Christ faith.

Herbert was a kind, soft spoken man. He always had a smile on his face when he greeted you.  He joined the Army as a young man and served as a Sergeant on the front lines of the Korean War.  After the war, he worked in St. Louis. He then returned home and married Nelda Moore in 1953, in Paragould. They moved to Corcoran, California, where he worked for Boswell Farms for 10 years. During their years in California, they welcomed a son, Jeffery. Feeling the need to be closer to family they moved back home to Marmaduke, Arkansas, where he and his brother, Vernon, worked at a cotton picker repair shop in the Holly Grove community for a few years. He then decided to go to work at L.A. Darling in Paragould where his other brother, Berlie, worked at the time. He retired from L.A. Darling after 25 years of service. After the passing of first wife, Herbert married Verneda Lentz in 2005. Herbert will be remembered as a humble man and loving husband, father and brother.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudy and Norma Phillips; wife and mother of his child, Nelda Phillips; second wife, Verneda Lentz Phillips; siblings, Suvda Thomas, Vernon Phillips and Jay Phillips.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Donna Phillips; brother and sister-in-law, Berlie and Vera Phillips; stepson, Jim Lentz; step daughter and step son-in-law, Kaylene and Randy Brinkley; step grandchildren, Josh Agee and Brandy Wells; step great-grandchildren, Alli Agee, Lilly Agee, Rhiannan Agee, Braelynn Wells and Brynlee Wells.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 18, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Phillips Funeral Home.  The funeral service will begin at noon at Phillips Funeral Home with Tim Wooldridge officiating.  Burial will follow at New Liberty Cemetery.
