L.R. Smith, 85, of Paragould passed from this life, Tuesday, January 19, 2016.  He was born March 2, 1930, at Stanford, to the late Jack and Susan Smith.  L.R. served for two years in the Korean War as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army.  L.R. devoted his life to ministry.  He was a Church of Christ preacher for 52 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Ray Smith; brothers, Earl, G.L., James, Bobby, O.V., and Elgie; and sister, Jessie Smith.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Carolyn Smith, of the home; daughter, Jane Walker, of Paragould; sister, Alice Songer; grandchildren, Holden Smith, Ashton Walker, and Landon Walker.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2016, at Phillips Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 23, 2016, in the Center Hill Chapel of Phillips Funeral Home with Evan Smith and Art Smith officiating.  Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery.

Lasting memorials may be made in honor of L.R. to the Children's Home, 5515 Walcott Road, Paragould, AR  72450.
