Maggie Smith, a cherished soul known for her warmth and generosity, passed away on April 27, 2026. Born on June 10, 1937, Maggie touched the hearts of many with her kindness and unwavering spirit.
A proud graduate of Oak Grove in 1955, Maggie carried the values and lessons from her youth into all aspects of her life. She was a devoted member of Fairview Baptist Church, where her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, providing strength and guidance throughout her many years.
Maggie’s talents extended beyond her spiritual commitments. She was a great cook, celebrated far and wide for her exceptional culinary skills. Those who knew her fondly remember her delicious fried chicken, delectable chicken and dumplings, and the mouthwatering Christmas candies she lovingly prepared each holiday season.
One of Maggie’s greatest joys was babysitting, a role she embraced for many years with great affection.
Maggie Smith leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and community spirit. The memories of her nurturing hands and generous heart continue to inspire those who had the honor of knowing her.
Maggie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ersie Exum; husband, James Franklin “Frankie” Smith; and siblings, Paul Exum, Merlene Osborn, Forrest Exum, Marvin Exum, Georgia May Adams, and Truman Exum.
Survivors include her children, Terry Joe Smith (Sharon), Brad Smith (Connie), Tammy Stevens (Kerry), and Kim Quinn (Curtis Gifford); brothers, Lynn Dillman Exum, David Exum, and Calvin Exum; sisters, Maxine Beeler and Joyce Cunningham; grandchildren, Nathan Smith, Cassie Hanson, Jacob Tucker, Courtney Smith, Anna Clark, and Slade Quinn; and great-grandchildren, Elliott Smith, Ember Smith, Hattie Hanson, and Clara Hanson.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 30, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Friday, May 1, at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Baptist Church with Dennis Strope officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Nathan Smith, Jacob Tucker, Slade Quinn, Jeff Cunningham, Billy Michael Walden, and Eddie Cunningham will serve as pallbearers.
Lasting memorials may be made to the Fairview Cemetery.
