Obituary

Matilda Russell, born on December 23, 1941, passed from this life on May 5, 2026. Throughout her life, Matilda was a cherished individual whose passions and faith deeply influenced those around her.

A devoted member of the 7th Day Pentecostal Church in Hoxie, Matilda found solace and strength within her spiritual community. Her commitment to her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her with grace and compassion.

Matilda's love for animals, especially dogs, was evident to all who knew her. She had a special gift for caring for those without a voice and often found joy in the simple, comforting presence of her furry companions. Beyond her affection for animals, Matilda delighted in the vibrant atmosphere of flea markets and the community they fostered; she enjoyed exploring these spaces with enthusiasm and an eye for unique treasures. She also treasured the quiet and patience required in fishing, finding peace by the water's edge.

Matilda Russell’s life was a testament to kindness, faith, and the simple joys that make life meaningful.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Esco and Martha Pence; husbands, Thomas “Tom” Elton Frost, Allen Wayne Russell; daughter, Gail Elaine Frost; son, Michael Frost; eight sisters; and two brothers.

Survivors include her brother, Charles (Carolyn) Pence; sons, Mark (Jackie) Frost, Paul (Sandra) Frost, Daniel (Madeline) Frost; daughter, Michelle (Jerome) Weaver; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 8, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at Phillips Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with David Gates and John Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery in Paragould.
