Melburn Clifton Messer - November 21, 2012 Melburn Clifton Messer, 82, was born June 28, 1930 in the Bard Community. He was the son of John D. and Lula Belle Messer. Melburn passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Belle Meade Nursing Home. He was an avid hunter, loved building houses, hobby work, was one of the founders of the Oak Grove Fire Department and was a firefighter for the Oak Grove Fire Department for 15 years.Preceding him in death were his parents; his loving wife of 38 years Gail Breckenridge Messer; one brother, Cloyce Messer; and one grandson, Michael Brandon Messer. He is survived by three sons and two daughter-in-laws, Gary Messer, Tim and Donna Messer of Paragould, and John and Dena Messer of Oak Grove; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jerry Thacker of Oak Grove; one step-daughter, Patty J. Fitzgerald; one brother, Dillman Messer; three sisters, Melba Goode, Carolyn Humphrey, and Jackie Ward; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty seven great grandchildren.The family will receive friends from 6 -8 p.m., Friday, November 23, 2012 at Phillips Funeral Home. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 in the Center Hill Chapel of Phillips Funeral Home with Ed Humphrey officiating. Pallbearers will be the grandsons. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.
