Orlan Wesley Mears passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, in Paragould, Arkansas. Born on January 17, 1948, in Brighton, Arkansas, Orlan lived a life marked by commitment, skill, and deep family devotion.
Orlan devoted his professional life to the Post Office, where he enjoyed a long and distinguished career, eventually retiring as the postmaster at Mountain View, Arkansas. His work ethic and leadership were hallmarks of his tenure.
Those who knew Orlan well admired his extraordinary musical gift. He was passionate about music and had the rare ability to play nearly any instrument by ear. While proficient in many, the guitar and bass guitar remained his favorites. Alongside his musical pursuits, Orlan was an avid pool player and enthusiast, both as a competitor and spectator. Additionally, his enjoyment of poker provided moments of camaraderie and friendly competition among family and friends.
Orlan’s personal life was rich with love and companionship. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Mears. The couple’s family grew to include their children: Tracie Hudson (Jimmy), Shannon Walton (Steve), and Orlan "Keith" Mears. His sister Barbara Davis remains a close presence, keeping cherished memories alive.
Orlan’s profound love extended to his grandchildren: Jillian Betts, Aslyn Hudson, Brooke Mitchell, Bryce Mears, Nathan Gomer, Gabrielle Huyser, Dakota Hudson, and Falyn Hudson. His great-grandchildren: Carley Hutcheson, Jasey Standley, Emma Hutcheson, Walker Standley, Lincoln Betts, Cali Gomer, Colton Mitchell, Ellie Gomer, Millie Gomer, Maverick Mears, Jasper Hammon, and Willow Huyser — are living testaments to the enduring spirit he imparted to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Melvina Mears; his siblings, Alline Thomason and Gene Mears; and his grandson, Jimmy Alec Hudson.
Family and friends will gather to honor Orlan’s memory with a visitation at New Life Fellowship Church, 2515 Rector Rd, Paragould, AR 72450, on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. A memorial service will immediately follow at 6:00 p.m. with Steve Walton officiating.
