Phillip Layton Wilkerson, 72, of Paragould, passed from this life Tuesday, November 07, 2017.  He was born June 30, 1945, in Paragould, to Cecil and Mildred Wilkerson.  Phil was a professor of history at Crowley's Ridge College for 50 years and a Church of Christ preacher for 45 years.  Phil loved God, his family, and Crowley's Ridge College.  Nothing made him happier than a house full of friends and family.  Phil was truly loved by all who knew him and he cherished every moment.  He was an avid deer and duck hunter.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Ruth Gist, Ida Gist, and Jessie Rowe.

Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Shelia Wilkerson; sons and daughters in law, Wes and Mary Wilkerson, and Daniel and Amy Wilkerson; brothers, Larry and C.E. Wilkerson; and a grandson, Hunter Wilkerson.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 8, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home.  A graveside service will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Union Grove Cemetery with Art Smith and Evan Smith officiating.

Members of the Arkansas Rattlers will serve as pallbearers.

The family requests lasting memorials be made in Phil's memory to Crowley's Ridge College.
