Obituary

Roy Albert McSpadden, 86, of Paragould, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023.  He was born September 12, 1936, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Roy O. and Reba McSpadden.  Roy began his career in the dairy business as a helper on a truck at the young age of 16.  He worked in several positions until he moved to the front office of Foremost Dairy.  He became the youngest office manager at Foremost/Turner Dairy before moving up to the plant/district manager in the early 1970's.  In all, Roy worked 63 years in the dairy business.  Roy was active in his community and very civic minded.  He was a member of the Exchange Club and the Rotary Club.  He served on the board of First National Bank, Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould School Board, Paragould Country Club, and was past president of the Chamber of Commerce.   Sports played a large part in Roy's life, especially his two passions, golf, and baseball.  The 1982 Paragould Country Club Champion was a title he proudly held.  He was active in the Paragould Booster Club and youth baseball.  St. Louis Cardinals, ASU, and the Razorbacks were among his favorite teams.  Roy helped run all the golf tournaments at Paragould County Club for many years with his best friend, Pete Black, and after his retirement, he was finance manager at the County Club.  One of his favorite tournaments was the annual Indian Classic Golf Fundraiser.  Roy donated to many causes with time and money.  He was a member of Paragould First Baptist Church.


Roy was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gerald McSpadden.


Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Linda McSpadden; sons, Roy (Troylynn) McSpadden, David (Kathy) McSpadden, Christopher (Stacey) McSpadden; daughter, Vicki (Richard) Shelby; cousins, Mary Nancy Chappel, Lynn Burroughs, Judy Morton; grandchildren, Ed McSpadden, Christy Gramling, Whitney McSpadden, Fletcher McSpadden, Palmer McSpadden, Brooke Shelby, Sam Shelby, and Blake Shelby; and nine great-grandchildren.


The family will receive friends Monday, April 10, from 9:30 a.m. until service time at Phillips Funeral Home.  A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, at Phillips Funeral Home.  The burial will be private.


Lasting memorials may be made to Arkansas Methodist Medical Center and The Witt House.
