In the last hour of his earthly life, our dad and papa was surrounded by his family and closest friends. He was ushered into the presence of God with his favorite Gospel Hymns and prayers of his loved ones. Samuel C. Poe of Walcott was born in Light, Arkansas on May 27, 1940 and went to his Heavenly home on March 9, 2022. He served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Korea. He was a Paragould and Greene County police officer for many years and loved giving back to his community. He was blessed with the heart of a servant, not only in his professional life, but also his personal life. A faithful member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church , he sang in a Gospel Quartet for 52 years. The Golden Tones and later The Poes sang in churches, Bible conferences, conventions and functions around the country, even performing on the Grand Ole Opry three times. His greatest joy was sharing Jesus with others. His favorite pastime was fishing with his sons.
Papa Sam deeply loved his family. He is preceded in death by his parents Cleo Poe and Roxie Poe Miles, one brother, Dennis Poe, 3 sisters, Jane High, Nina Poe, and Helen McQuay. He is survived by 2 sisters, Nila Vaughn and Bobbie Ann Jones (Robbie), and one brother, Ray Poe (Sandy). He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Jean Poe of Walcott and four children Kimberly Wilkins (Tim), Gary Poe (Deanna), Mark Poe (Alisa), Sammy Poe (Allison). He adored his precious grandchildren Lindsey McBride (Andrew), David Mitchell (Lexie), Landon Mitchell, Jimmy Poe (Kalyn), Brittany Hurst (Chris), Shelby Burns (Trenton), Sabrina Poe, Lauren Poe, Matty Poe, Mason Poe, Maxx Poe. He was blessed with 11 great grandchildren: Lane McBride, Luke McBride, Asher McBride, Eli McBride, Briley Poe, Houston Poe, Kinsley Poe, Brentley Hurst, Finn Stoverink, Paislee Burns, and Jaxson Burns.
A celebration of a life well lived will be held at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Saturday, March 12. A time of visitation will be from 10:00 am -12:00 pm and the service at 12:00 pm. Graveside memorial will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
