Shawn Renee Nelson, a loving mother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2023, at the age of 59. She was born on May 25, 1964

Shawn was preceded in death by her parents, Hiram and Mae Nelson; brothers, Gary Nelson and Larry Nelson; and sister, Shannon West. She is survived by her devoted son, James Nelson; brothers, Terry Nelson and Barry Nelson; sisters, Sharon Gist, Sherry McDaniel, and Shelia Brogdon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who were very dear to her heart.

Throughout her life, Shawn had a passion for reading, often getting lost in the pages of a captivating novel.

In her downtime, Shawn enjoyed watching the Lifetime Network, finding solace in the powerful and inspiring stories of women overcoming adversity. She was also an avid fan of the Andy Griffith Show, appreciating the timeless humor and life lessons the show offered. Shawn's love for these shows was a reflection of her own strength, resilience, and her ability to find humor in life's challenges.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 1, at 2:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Packy Magel officiating.
