Obituary


Walter C. Lumpkin of Paragould, AR died at the NEA Baptist Medical Center in Jonesboro, Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the age of 91. He was born on Monday, August 10, 1925 near Marvell, Arkansas, the son of Emmett and Mamie Lumpkin. He was a retired Church of Christ minister having preached the gospel for more than sixty years. He served churches in Missouri, Mississippi and Tennessee. When he retired from full time ministry work he and his wife moved to Paragould in 1997.
Mr. Lumpkin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 and half years, Marie Hill Lumpkin; one sister, Jeanette McClure; and three brothers, Fred Lumpkin, Marvin Lumpkin and J.D. Lumpkin.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Smith and her husband, Art of Paragould and Gail Hickman and her husband, Chuck of Anchorage, Alaska; seven grandchildren, Tara Maag, Ashley Massey, Cade Smith, Mathew Hickman, Patrick Hickman, Anamarie Knapp, and Tim Hickman; two brothers, Ray Lumpkin and Lynn Lumpkin; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
Mr. Lumpkin was a veteran who served in the United States Army during WW2. He was a member of the Center Hill Church of Christ.
The family will receive friends from 12 - 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Phillips Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 1 p.m. in the Center Hill Chapel of Phillips Funeral Home with Art Smith, Cade Smith, Tim Hickman and Michael Meredith officiating. Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery.
