Anthony Shelton Obituary

Anthony Dewayne Shelton, 75, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.  He was born March 22, 1948, in Mobile, Alabama, to J. Paul and Martha Mae Shelton.  He lived most of his life in Jackson, Mississippi, and attended Forest Hill High School, Mississippi College, and Hinds Community College where he was inducted into the College Sports Hall of Fame.  Anthony retired as a Master Sergeant from the Mississippi Army National Guard after 33 years of service and serving stateside during Vietnam and Desert Storm.  He was a football and basketball coach at McCluer Academy, then a welding salesman for Air Gas, Inc. in Mississippi.  After retirement, he and his wife, Shirley, relocated to Paragould, Arkansas, where he worked as a family service representative for Phillips Funeral Home.  Anthony was a faithful member of Westview Baptist Church.  Anthony touched the hearts of all he met, he will be truly missed. 

Anthony was preceded in death by his parents and numerous other family members.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Shelton; daughters, Tami S. Davis and Jennifer Jackson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jay and Francis Shelton, Randy and Alice Shelton, Keith and Cynara Shelton, Tim and Cheryl Shelton; two grandchildren, Christopher Jackson (DeAnna) and Destiny Jackson; and one great-grandson, Hunter Jackson.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 20, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends Friday, April 21, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday, April 22, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, Mississippi.  The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at Chancellor Funeral Home.  Burial with military honors will follow in Kosciusko City Cemetery in Kosciusko, Mississippi. 

If one wishes to make a memorial, Anthony would be honored with donations to the Wounded Warrior Project.
