Berniece Day

Berniece Day, 97, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at Greene Acres Nursing Home. She was born in Marmaduke on January 1, 1920, to Carlos and Vera Ward. Berniece retired from the Marmaduke School Cafeteria. She was known all over the town for her extraordinary cooking abilities and everyone called her Grandmother Day.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.D. Day; two daughters, Verna Jean Williams and Theresa Gale Day; a grandson, Grant Williams; and eight siblings.

She is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Marsha and Glen Freeman and Pamelia Ruth and Jerry Don McIntosh; two brothers, Cloman Ward and Bobby Ward; one sister, Betty Barnhart; seven grandchildren, Breck Freeman, Bridget Freeman Barton, Gaybie Smith, Kathy Hitchcock, Lorie Long, Reesa Williams and Nichole Robinson; twenty three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 - 11 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2017, at Marmaduke First Baptist Church. Funeral Services will follow at 11 a.m. at Marmaduke First Baptist Church with Kim Bridges and Breck Freeman officiating. Burial will follow at Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be the great-grandsons.
