Erie Ellen (Cook) Sanders

Erie Ellen Sanders was born April 26, 1941, to the late George and Mildred Cook.   She passed away on January 2, 2021, at the age of 79.  Erie loved God and her family, adoring her grandchildren and great grands.  She fit the Proverbs 31 woman in so many ways.  She was more precious than rubies and she greatly enriched the life of her husband.  She was a hard worker which included everything she put her hand to from sewing, gardening, helping on the farm, keeping books, and her career as a librarian for Crowley’s Ridge College, Tech Elementary, Delaplaine School and ending her career as the Tech High School librarian where she retired in 2003.  She worked very hard for many years, going to school part time to earn her Master’s Degree in Library Science in 1978, which she was very proud of.   She was a long-time active member of the Center Hill Church of Christ and took care of the church’s library for many years.  Being a librarian, she naturally loved to read, study her Bible, and in years past taught Bible classes to the younger grades.  When her health allowed, she loved being part of the Arkansas Retired Teachers Assoc. and the teacher’s sorority Alpha Delta Kappa for Women Educators which she served as past president.  She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend to so many.     

Erie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mildred Cook; four brothers, Charles Cook, Clyde Cook, Gerald Cook, and Max Cook; and one sister, Lois Finely.

Erie is survived by her husband, Lovoy Sanders; son, Terry Sanders and his wife, Debbie; three sisters, Edna May, Irma Winn, and Naomi Glassey and her husband, Ray; three grandchildren, Chad Sanders and his wife, Jocelyn, Todd Sanders  and his wife, Angel, Megan Vann and her husband, Noah; four great grandchildren, Adeline Sanders, Grayson Sanders, Sadie Sanders, and Hollis Sanders.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 5, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at Phillips Funeral Home.  The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, at Phillips Funeral Home with Michael Meredith officiating.  Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Gary Winn, Ronnie Winn, Jonathan Winn, Joseph Winn, John May and Billy Jackson.

If one wishes to make a memorial, Erie would be honored by contributions to Crowley's Ridge College, Crowley's Ridge Academy, or Center Hill Church of Christ.
