Gary Chipman, 76, of Paragould, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023, at his residence. He was born June 10, 1946, to the late Sam and Alma (Edwards) Chipman in St. Louis, MO. He was the middle child of 9 children. Gary was a proud Vietnam War Veteran gladly serving in the Navy aboard the USS Graffias. After returning to civilian life, Gary was a local self-employed painter who was voted Best of the Best for several years. As an avid Johnny Cash fan, he enjoyed singing country music often at the Roundup in Brookland. The most notable trait Gary portrayed was his sense of humor; no matter how he felt he was witty and funny. He loved making others laugh. Gary was a kind person who always looked to help others. He was always there to lend a helping hand. Gary enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and his church family at Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church.
Gary was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; 3 brothers, Donald, Larry, and Richard; 1 sister, Sandra; and granddaughter, Erin Michelle English.
Gary is survived by his wife, Mary Beth (Cupp) Chipman of 46 years; 2 daughters, Shelly (Nels) Davis of Columbia, NC, and Bethany (Yomen) English of Oxford, MS; 4 grandchildren, Michael Driggers of Columbus, SC, Olivia and David English of Charleston, SC, and Jenna English of Oxford, MS; numerous nieces and nephews that had a special place in his heart. Also, we can’t forget the fur baby Samson who never left his side.
A visitation and memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church. The visitation will begin at noon and the memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens with military honors.
