James Michael Eubanks

James Michael Eubanks, 73, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023, at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vera and James Eubanks and his wife, Sylvia (Slayton) Eubanks. He is survived by his son, Timothy Eubanks along with his wife Sarah and their daughter Iris; Sonya Hester, his sister; and Colin Hester, his nephew.

He was born in Paragould on July 17, 1949. He was a graduate of Greene County Tech and Arkansas State University. A former drag racer, he still enjoyed putting the hammer down on his 1968 Barracuda while driving on the backroads. Throughout his working life, he had several careers from manager of the local co-op to electrician. After retirement, he launched into a second career buying and selling vinyl records and became a well-known and well-loved member of the vinyl community. If there was a record show anywhere in the Mid-South he would be there with a dolly and crates to haul away what he had purchased. He loved to talk about records, especially the ones he bought from artists he'd never heard of but that had, as he would say, "a really cool cover."  Before she passed away, he loved to travel with his beloved wife for food, fun, and flea markets all across America. Throughout his life, he always looked forward to tomorrow and was delighted to learn new things and speculate on the possibilities of the future. One of his favorite speculations was an invention that would allow him to be able to talk to his cats and have them talk to him in turn. Though he knew this invention would likely never happen in his lifetime he felt certain his son would be able to see this marvelous technology. Instead, he was happy being able to pet and spend time with his favorite cat friends at home while looking through his stacks of new records.

A graveside service under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home will be held at Linwood Cemetery on Tuesday, May 16, at 3:00 p.m. with Kenneth Johnson officiating. Memorials may be made to the animal shelter of your choice.
