Jimmy Leon Smith, Sr., 80, of Jonesboro, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020, at St. Bernards Medical Center. He was born August 12, 1940, in Paragould, to Macon and Reba Smith. Jim was known to many of his friends as “Snuffy.” He retired from Wolverine Worldwide where he was the Vice President of Manufacturing. Outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, and golfing were favorites of Jim’s. He was a member of Commissary Church of Christ.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jimmy Leon Smith, Jr.; and niece, Andrea Harmon Weddington.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Katie Morrow Smith; sisters, Glenna Smith Ryles (Ronald) and Shirley Smith Harmon; niece, Vanessa Ryles Harris (Todd); great niece, Keely McCarter Chamber (Jared); and great nephews, Talon Harris and Kegan Harris. Jim leaves behind many friends and extended family that loved him dearly.
A graveside service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 12, at Morrow Cemetery with Evan Smith officiating. In order to comply with CDC guidelines, friends are asked to practice social distancing and face masks are encouraged.
If one wishes to make a memorial, Jim would be honored by contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
