John Lee Funk was born to Dorsey Marcus and Rebecca Lupton Funk on May 13, 1934, in Winchester, VA. He graduated from James Wood High School. He passed very peacefully from this life at his home on November 27, 2022. Anyone who knew John realized how much he loved the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia. His location changed when he met the daughter of a dairy farmer at Harding University, Helen Jo Eubanks. Even though they settled in Arkansas, Helen developed a great love and appreciation for Virginia. John was employed at Emerson Electric for 44 years as a Quality Control Supervisor. He enjoyed his work and the people.
John and Helen were incredibly close. They loved traveling, reading, gardening, and most of all, just being together. The passing of Helen in February of 2012 left a huge void for John, however, he purposefully worked at staying busy taking care of his yard, visiting the library, doing woodwork, going on outings with JoAnna, and always ready to lend a helping hand. He was a man of great kindness with a big smile.
He is survived by his daughter, JoAnna Hyde; many Eubanks and Virginia Funk cousins; and so many friends and acquaintances.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 30, from 4:00 p.m. until service time at Phillips Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Phillips Funeral home with Danny Eubanks and Aaron Neugebauer officiating. Burial will be private.
If one wishes to make a memorial, John would be honored by contributions to the Children's Homes or a charity of your choice.
