Obituary

Larry Raymond Barton, 74, Paragould, Arkansas passed away on June 9, 2020, at 8:22 am at St. Bernard’s Medical Center, Jonesboro, after a long battle with cancer and congestive heart failure.

He was born January 29th, 1946, in Pine Flat, near Hartshorn, Missouri, to Elmer Everett Barton and Sylivia Elsie (Morgan) Barton.

Larry attended Houston High School from 1960 until he joined the United States Army and served from 1964-1970, including time in Korea, Germany, and a tour in Vietnam. Upon his discharge he joined the United States Marine Corps, 1972-1976. In 1992, he started attending Lincoln University in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and graduated in 1993. In 1994, he attended Heavy Equipment School in Linn where he graduated the same year.

He married his sweetheart Burma Snyder on June 26, 1968, while he was on active duty and they settled wherever the Military sent them. Upon discharge they settled close to his birthplace in Missouri, where they spent 52 years of loving marriage together. They moved to Paragould, Arkansas, at the beginning of 2020.

Larry loved his hot rods, classic cars were in his blood, he worked and restored many over the years, but none were his pride until he finished his 1966 Belvedere.

Larry was a family man; he was not only a son, and brother, but a loyal husband, loving father, and proud grandfather and great grandfather. He worked hard to provide and make sure everyone he loved was taken care of even if it took away from himself.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother and father; younger sisters, Patricia and Sylivia; older brother, Utah; and younger brother, Ivan.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Burma (Snyder) Barton of Paragould Arkansas; daughter and son-in-law, Lesa and James Stacey of Paragould, Arkansas; grandchildren, Raymond, Mikayla, and Alyssa; great grandson, Jayden; brothers, Gary Barton of Richland, Missouri, Ronnie Barton of Bucyrus, Missouri; Lonnie Barton of Houston, Missouri, Alvin Barton of Success, Missouri, Justin Barton of Hartshorn, Missouri, Vincent Barton of Houston, Missouri, and Kevin Barton of Licking, Missouri; sisters, Linda Hildebrand of Caulfield, Missouri, and Brenda Nolker of Lawson, Missouri; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Survivors also include his loving friends and extend family, Gen and Asher Stacey of Paragould, Arkansas, and Mildred Predue and Keith Dockins of Paragould, Arkansas

It was Larry’s wishes that there would be no viewing, visitation or funeral. He wished for his Military headstone to be placed in the family cemetery and his ashes to follow.

If you wish, you can donate in Larry’s memory to VVA.org (Vietnam Veterans of America), Disabled Veterans of America, or the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are in care of Phillips Funeral Home.
