Larry Matthew Garner, 75, of Paragould, passed away Monday, July 19, 2021, at Ridgecrest Health & Rehabilitation. He was born on July 26, 1945, to the late Henry Garner and Lucille Griggs in St. Louis, MO. He was raised in Stonewell, AR, by his paternal grandparents, the late Dallas and Osie Garner. He is preceded in death by his stepson, David Smith, and grandbaby, Jackson Matheney.
Larry attended Lafe School. He joined the Air Force in 1963, where he served for 4 years. He also served in the National Guard and Army Reserve for 19 years. Larry retired as a supervisor from Emerson Electric in 2010 where he had worked for 41 years. He had a strong work ethic and enjoyed construction work in his spare time. He looked forward to his yearly fishing trips, spending time with his grandchildren, watching baseball games, and taking long drives in the country looking at crops. Larry was of Baptist faith and professed Christ as his Lord.
Larry is survived by 2 sons, Alan (Jae) Garner of Colorado Springs and Anthony (Michelle) Garner of Paragould; 1 daughter, Michele (Josh) Matheney of Paragould and 1 stepdaughter, Kellie Williams of Paragould; Grandchildren: Spencer, Cathy, Alan Jr., Kellse, Kaitlyn, Jaden, Luz, Caleb, Aedan, Aaron, Sadie, Allie, as well as 7 Great-Grandchildren; Siblings: Linda (late Bill) Boggs, Diane (Bill) Krasnesky, Gary Garner, Ronnie Garner, Donnie Garner, Dennis Garner, Sissy Webb, Carol Griggs, as well as numerous other family and friends. Larry was also especially close to his Aunt Verda Crouch and longtime friend, Willie Don Williams.
Visitation will be Friday, July 23, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Mr. Terry Songer officiating. Graveside service and burial will follow at Providence Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Lafe.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
