Lela Evelyn Gibson Obituary
Our beloved mother, Lela Evelyn Gibson joined her heavenly father in peace, love, and eternal rest on Monday, April 20, 2020. All who knew her witnessed her unlimited capacity for love, hard work, kindness, strength, sheer determination, and absolute selflessness.
When asked what her greatest joy in life, she replied, “My children and grandchildren”. How she loved us. Her door was always open to family and friends and how welcoming she was to all. Our lives are blessed by our mother’s example of grace and service to others. We will carry her in our hearts and lives forever.
Evelyn was born August 10, 1930, to Melvin and Nina Faye Faughn. On May 22, 1952, Evelyn married Elton Ray Gibson, Sr. She retired after 34 years as the secretary at Marmaduke School District. After retirement, she worked at Wal-Mart in the fabric department.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elton Ray Gibson, Sr.; grandson, Kris McNeely; and brothers, Nathan Faughn and Dewayne Faughn.
Survivors include her children, Elton Ray Gibson, Jr. (Lorene), Rebecca Ann Edwards (Harold), Carolyn Fae McNeely (Jerry), Bruce Edward Gibson, Donald Eugene Gibson (Ann Rene Jacobs), Brett Wayne Gibson (Jamie), Rayanna Lynn Gibson (Dalton); brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald Faughn (Caroline), Randal Faughn (Susan), Allen Faughn (Dianna); sisters, Vaudean Jones, Linda Bickford; grandchildren, Jennifer Bricker, Jonathan Edwards, Amanda Vestal, Sally Smith, Molly Miller, Abby Gibson, Ty Gibson, Jack Dalton, Harry Dalton; and great-grandchildren, Ian Bricker, Eleanor Bricker, Neely Vestal, Lela Vestal, and Felix McNeely.

Services will be private and under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home.
