Samuel George Becerra, 75, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023. He was born July 31, 1948, to Jesse and Dorothy Becerra. Sam was a Vietnam Veteran that served on the USS Keppler in the Navy. He taught and administrated at various local schools from 1977-89. Sam worked at the Post Office for 25 years and ministered at many small Church of Christ congregations over the last 50 years. Sam loved God and was very patriotic. He was always a big jokester and very cheerful. Sam loved life, enjoyed listening to music, and was always proud of his kids and grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ruth Evans “Granny” and his parents.
Survivors include wife of 52 years, Kathie Arlene Becerra; his son, Joey Becerra (La-Donna); daughter, Ashley Irvin (Will); “brothers” and “sisters,” Ellen and Kevin Cable and Scott and Christy King; grandchildren, Brady Becerra, Jett Becerra, Rhys Becerra, Karson Graves, Jaxon Graves, Landon Irvin; bonus grandchildren, Annabelle Irvin, Brendan Irvin, Riley Irvin, and Chris Chester; foreign exchange student whom became family Emi Rosen of Japan, and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 3, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Phillips Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Raymond Lasley and Andrew Knipple officiating. Burial will follow at Hite Cemetery in Biggers.
In lieu of flowers can be made to Crowley's Ridge Academy or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
