Sandra Kay Montgomery, age 77, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020, at Phil and Flo Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. She was born in Marked Tree, Arkansas on March 11, 1943, the daughter of Alvin and Helen Luster. She graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1961, attended Arkansas State University and graduated from the nursing program at Mississippi College for Women in Columbus, Mississippi. She was married to Curtis L. Montgomery, Lt. Colonel, USAF retired.
Aunt Kay, as she was lovingly known by her many nieces and nephews, had a keen sense of humor, a strong devotion to family, and a love for caring for others, as demonstrated by her many years in nursing. Over the years, she worked as a surgical nurse for St. Bernard’s Hospital and Methodist Hospital in Jonesboro and Kettering Hospital in Kettering, Ohio. She also loved gardening and was a Master Gardner.
She is survived by her husband; daughter Kimberly Ann Montgomery Schoettle and husband, Steve; son Scot C. Montgomery and wife Shelley; and the loves of her life, her four grandsons, Lane Schoettle and wife Emily; Ian Schoettle; Alex and Grant Montgomery; and step-grandson Eric Harmon and wife Katelyn; her brothers, Bill, Doug and Lynn Luster; sister, Susan Luster Castro; sisters-in-law Faye, Margie, Anne and Lisa Luster; brother-in-law Eduardo Castro; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and extended family member Betty Bowden.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, and brothers A.D., Jim, and Kenneth Luster.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Phillips Funeral Home in Paragould, Arkansas. A graveside service will be held at Greene County Memorial Gardens on Friday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Bobby Joe Barnett officiating.
