Viola Nelson, 79, of Paragould, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. She was born November 1, 1941, to Jack and Roberta Mason.
Viola was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to serve others, especially her family. She was a faithful follower of Christ, and displayed His love in her selfless actions toward others. She was a member of Center Hill Church of Christ.
She loved music, particularly country, and could be found in attendance at most local shows. She was always in attendance at her grandchildren’s events, as their biggest supporter. She enjoyed cooking and hosting get-togethers for her family.
She was known for her sweet and loving disposition, especially her pretty smile.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; son in law, Mike Chipman; and brothers, Kenneth Mason, Charles Mason, and Jackie Mason.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, J. R. Nelson; daughters, Teresa Chipman, Kim Stewart (Lanny); sister, Betty Thompson (Jerry Don); grandchildren, Grant Stewart, Hunter Chipman, and Halle Stewart; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 6, from noon until service time at Phillips Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Michael Meredith and Micah Brinkley officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.
Grant Stewart, Hunter Chipman, Landon Brinkley, Stacy Thompson, Jason Thompson, and Bryan Thompson will serve as pallbearers.
