Winford D. Newsom

W.D. Newsom, a member of the Walcott community, passed away on March 16, 2024 at the age of 84. Born July 23 1939, in Walcott Arkansas. His pursuit of education led him to Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville MO where he received his degree in engineering. This led him to a career as both an engineer and plant manager.

He was a Navy veteran and served his Country. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church faithfully. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in fishing and hunting. His talent for woodworking was a way for him to share with others.

Winford was preceded in death by his parent, Wake and Elizabeth Newsom; sons, Adam and Andrew Newsom; and sisters Colleen Faulkner and Laverne Wilcoxson.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years, Barbara Newsom; grandchildren, Mallory (Trent) Thomason, Amelia (Gordon) Counts, and Colin Newsom; great-grandson, Maddux Thomason; and numerous wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 19th from 10 a.m. until service time at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The funeral service under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home will begin at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate your donation to Mt. Zion Cemetery.
